Screenrights Licence - Part VA of the Copyright Act

The Screenrights licence allows staff to copy and communicate TV, satellite, cable or radio broadcasts for educational purposes of the university. This includes podcasts of broadcast material that was originally made available in a free-to-air broadcast.

Programs can be recorded at home by staff, but they must be labelled to comply with the licence before they can be shown in class.

Programs copied under the Screenrights licence can only be made available to students and staff of Monash University, or another university with a Screenrights remuneration notice in place.

Preview copies can be made but these must be deleted within 14 days or provided to the Audio Visual Production Unit to be made into a licensed copy.

Legitimate non-infringing copies of audio-visual material can be shown to class, as long as it is for educational purposes and the audience is restricted to students of that class. No members of the public should be in attendance.
